Last night, February 5, 2008, caucuses were held all over our state and country. This day is referred to by many as "Super Tuesday." It is my understanding that the purpose of caucuses are to decide delegates, as well as to discuss local, state, and national issues. These caucuses also give us an early indication as to who the leading candidates are in the upcoming presidential election.
To be honest, I have never paid attention to this day at all in the past. Not being one who is into politics, the outcomes of "Super Tuesday" really didn't mean much to me. Paying closer attention to it this year, I found it to be somewhat interesting.
I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about any of the candidates for the upcoming election. But, after some consideration, I decided that for the time being I am in support of the DFL. Particularly Senator Obama. I will be keeping an open mind, and over time who I support may change.
Being that I live in District 49B, my DFL caucus was held at Andover High School. Registration for this caucus took place at 6:30 pm, and the start time was at 7:00pm.
Because of a prior commitment I was unable to attend the caucus myself, but from what I heard it was held in the cafeteria and auditorium, as well as some of the lower classrooms of the school.
Looking into "Super Tuesday" results this morning, I read that there was a huge turn out for this event state wide. Being that my city and its surrounding areas are largely populated, I suspect that there was a large turnout at Andover High School as well. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to come across the issues that were discussed or the result of my particular caucus. When I find out this information it will be included in a future blog.
